Local Authors Launch Book: Why We Do What We Do

Ever since I first got to know Caroline Hanstke and Brian Emmanuel Grey’s work on inner family archetypes, I heard people asking for a book that would explain the unique method they had been using to help others improve themselves and their relationships.

Now, after three years of hard work, the book is finally here. It is called Why We Do What We Do: Four Pathways to Your Authentic Self. It answers many questions about the archetypes and presents exciting, breakthrough teachings that can give you a higher understanding of human behavior. It will show you what trips you up, and explain where other people are coming from. It will teach you how to bring out the best in yourself and in others, so you can strengthen your relationships. It explains how archetypal patterns shape your life by influencing how you think and feel, what you like and dislike, and what you aspire to.

First, the book introduces four principles that will help you to become authentic and strengthen your relationships. These four principles relate to four specific archetypes imbedded in everyone’s consciousness—the inner Father, the inner Mother, the inner Boychild and the inner Girlchild.

The four principles are:

  1. Drawing your boundaries.
  2. Embracing your inner teacher.
  3. Discovering what drives you.
  4. Appreciating your muse.

You will read how Caroline and Brian used the four principles and their corresponding archetypes to coach individuals and groups, to heal relationship problems and to mediate human resource issues in large and small business organizations.

Then, you will learn how to work with five tools that can help you become more authentic. The first tool is your spiritual connection, which is colored by the archetype you most aspire to. The second tool is your reasoning ability, which is influenced by the archetype you like to reason through. The third tool is your emotional reserve, which is shaped by the archetype you feel through. The fourth tool is learning to transform your sabotaging mechanism that comes from your unconscious mind. Understanding the archetype that sabotages you can help you to transform it. The fifth tool is your social mask, the image you put forth. It is influenced by the archetype through which you socialize and it describes your family values.

The book’s third section is especially exciting, because it talks about eight archetypal patterns of behavior. One of these eight patterns will describe you, your loved ones, your friends and your coworkers. In each chapter dedicated to a pattern, you will find helpful information, stories and anecdotes that will help you make the best of the archetypes you relate through most. You will even read about how celebrities play out their archetypal pattern of behavior.

At the end of the book, we included, by popular demand—an archetypal relationship guide. It describes thirty-six interactions between people with the same or different archetypal patterns of behavior and offers helpful insight so you can cultivate mutually rewarding relationships with others.

But don’t just take out word for it. Here’s what other people who read our book had to say:

A wonderfully integrated way of learning about the dynamics of our own personality and our relationships with others. These simple yet deep concepts have the power to lead us to the core of who we really are so we can give our most precious gift to others.
